ANDHRA PRADESH AGRI CLIMATIC ZONES

Agri-Climatic Zones :
The cropped area in Andhra Pradesh is divided into seven zones based on the Agri-climatic conditions. The classification mainly concentrates on the range of rainfall received, type and topography of the soils. The districts covered by the different zones and their Agri-climatic characteristics are given below:

Krishna and Godavari Basin

Districts:
East Godavari Part, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, and contiguous areas of Khammam, Nalgonda and Prakasam.

Rainfall:
South West Monsoon : 800-1100 mm.

Temperature:
Max. 32-36oC & Min. 23-24oC

Soil Type:
Deltaic alluvium, Red soils with clay, B.C. Soils, Red Loams, Coastal sands & saline soils.

Crops Grown:
Coconut , Fruits crops like mango, sweet orange and flowers.

North Coastal Zone

Districts:
Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and uplands of East Godavari dist.

Rainfall:
South West Monsoon : 1000-1100 mm.

Temperature:
Max. 33-36oC & Min. 26-27oC

Soil Type:
Red soils with clay base,Pockets of acidic Soils, laterite soils, Soils with PH 4-5.

Crops Grown:
Mango, Cashew and flowers.

North Telangana Zone

Districts:
Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak (Northern part), Warangal (Except N.W.Part), Eastern tips of Nalgonda and Khammam.

Rainfall
South West Monsoon : 900-1500 mm.

Temperature:
Max. 30-37oC & Min. 21-25 oC

Soil Type:
Chalkas, Red sandy soils, Dubbas, Deep Red loamy soils, Very deep B.C. Soils.

Crops Grown:
Mango, Sweet Orange and Flowers.

Southern zone

Districts:
Nellore, Chittoor, Southern parts of Prakasam and Cuddapah and Eastern parts of anantapur.

Rainfall:
South West Monsoon : 700-1100 mm

Temperature:
Max. 33-46oC & Min. 23-25 oC

Soil Type:
Red loamy soils, Shallow to moderately deep.

Crops Grown:
Sweet orange, Mango, Vegetables , Sapota and Papaya.

Southern Telangana Zone

Districts:
Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar (except southern border), Nalgonda (except North eastern border), Medak (Southern parts), Warangal (North Western Part).

Rainfall:

South West Monsoon : 700-900 mm.

Temperature:
Max. 28-34oC & Min. 22-23 oC

Soil Type:
Red earths with loamy sub-soils (Chalkas).

Crops Grown:
Mango, sweet orange, sapota, vegetables and flowers.

High Altitude & Tribal Areas

Districts:
Northern borders of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and Khammam.

Rainfall:
South West Monsoon : >1400 mm.

Soil Type:
Hill slopes, Undulating transported soils.

Crops Grown:
Banana , Cashew, Citrus and vegetables.

Scarce rainfall zone

Districts:
Kurnool, Anantapur, Prakasam (western parts), Cuddapah (Northern part), Mahabubnagar (Southern border).

Rainfall:
South West Monsoon : 500-750 mm.

Temperature:
Max. 32-36oC & Min. 24-30 oC

Soil Type:
Red earths with loamy soils (Chalkas), Red sandy soils and B.C. Soils in pockets.

Crops Grown:
Mango, sweet orange, vegetables and flowers.
